Darkness Aids Germination

by Tia Blassingame

A meditation on loss, resilience, and growth of self and seedlings.

This title was published in collaboration with the Book/Print Artist/Scholar of Color collective, which brings scholars of book history and print culture into conversation and collaboration with Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) book artists, papermakers, curators, letterpress printers, and printmakers to build community and support systems.

A book artist and printmaker exploring the intersection of race, history, and perception, Blassingame utilizes printmaking and book arts techniques to render racially-charged images and histories for a nuanced discussion on issues of race and racism. In 2019 she founded the Book/Print Artist/Scholar of Color collective, which currently has over 35 members. Blassingame is an Assistant Professor of Book Arts at Scripps College and the Director of Scripps College Press.
